Demand Justice for Pit Bull Starved to Death

Target: Hamilton, Ohio Municipal Court Judge Daniel Gattermeyer

Goal: Demand that Elizabeth Lewis, a woman accused of starving her dog for a second time, be brought to justice.

Ohio resident Elizabeth Lewis was recently charged for starving her young pit bull, Bruiser, for the second time. The arrest came after a local resident reported an emaciated pit bull falling down the steps of Lewis’ apartment. Butler County Deputy Dog Warden Tonya Hanson responded to the report and had no choice but to order that the dog be taken to animal control and humanely euthanized. Hanson said it was the worst case of starvation she had seen in her 15 years of service. Bruiser was 10 months old.

What makes this incident truly sad is that it could have been avoided. In August 2012, Lewis was arrested and charged for the same crime, also involving Bruiser. He was only 4 months old at the time and weighed 17 pounds when he was rescued. Hamilton Municipal Court Judge Daniel Gattermeyer found Lewis not guilty. During the trial, Bruiser was cared for at Animal Friends Humane Society where he reached a healthy weight at 38 pounds. He was released back to Lewis after the trial.

Bruiser’s condition this time was so bad that Animal Friends Humane Society made a statement saying, “It was a miracle the dog could crawl out of the apartment. It couldn’t even stand. It was dying.” Lewis still denies she starved Brusier, stating that he had hereditary mange and refused to eat. If convicted she could receive up to a year in prison and a $1,000 fine.

Bruiser’s death has already made national headlines and spurred several other petitions and social media pages that all hope to bring some meaning to his death. Please sign the petition below to demand that Lewis be brought to justice. Bruiser’s life could have been spared if only Judge Gattermeyer had found Lewis guilty the first time. This kind of negligence when it comes to animal cruelty trials must be stopped and Bruiser’s life should serve as an example. These cases cannot be treated as though there isn’t anything at stake.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Judge Gattermeyer,

In August last year you found Elizabeth Lewis, a woman accused of starving her 4-month-old pit bull puppy named Bruiser, not guilty despite the fact that the dog was nearly 20 pounds underweight. Lewis was recently arrested for the same crime, only this time Bruiser didn’t make it. He was so malnourished that the only option was to euthanize him.

Please do not make the same mistake twice. It is obvious that Lewis’ claim that Bruiser refused to eat is a lie. Anyone who truly cared for the dog’s welfare would have done what was necessary to keep him healthy, even if it meant giving him up. Bruiser’s life should not have been lost. Regardless of your decision in the previous trial, he should not have been returned to Lewis under any circumstances. Show the state of Ohio that you will not tolerate this kind of cruelty and give Elizabeth Lewis the sentencing she deserves.

Sincerely,

monster lock her up , that poor poor dog

  2. Linda Indyke says:

I’ve heard of some pretty bad judicial decisions but the one returning Bruiser to his abuser is the ultimate. What in the world was this judge thinking – if, indeed, one could call it thinking?

  3. This image has haunted me since seeing it yesterday. I burst into tears, shut the site down, returned 2 minutes later to sign. I can’t imagine what this poor little dog endured.I posted on my twitter site. She failed to feed him so CUT HER HANDS OFF. Thing is I meant every word and would do it gladly. This is neglect in its purest form and I can’t see a sentence fit enough for the crime. I watch my, little overweight, dog looking at me smiling and I think of Bruiser

  4. Another defective human. Send her back to hell where she surely must have come from. God forgive me……the unspeakable things I wish on her.

  5. She should be put in a cage and left to die of starving.

  6. Caroline Tetschner says:

horrible injustice. Let’s get it right this time, if nothing else for this poor baby’s memory.

  7. carol haley says:

The judge is responsible for the brutal and unnecessary starvation of this innocent being. Great justice system.

  8. Dee Weiss says:

It is so sad that these animals continue to suffer. The laws s/b sooooo much tougher. We have 5 dogs and all of them are rescue dogs. They are all wonderful animals.

    Justice is in order!!!!

I just saw this Story and I just went crazy with Rage. HOW can a Person do this???? She should be Locked up and Not given anyfood….And then she will Know what its Like…..

  11. Filthy, disgusting, horrifyingly cruel female!!! How COULD she? She starved a dear, sweet puppy to DEATH! Puppies only want to give love. They love and revere their humans no matter what. How could this vile creature violate that trust?

She deserves to starve. Let her know how her poor little puppy felt. He should be gallumphing around, like only pit bull puppies can do. Not laying on the pavement, a poor, bedraggled little heap of bone and tightly stretched flesh.

Such evil needs to be punished severely. Anyone who could watch a puppy starve to death is capable of any abomination. What’s next? A human baby? Gee, watching a plump little furless angel shrivel to bones may be as much fun for this piece of filth as watching a furry one die. Please give this female the absolute maximum sentence for torture and murder of a loving, living being!

  12. Sometimes monsters don’t look like monsters……never forget this defect’s face

This is apalling and goes on all too often in our state. The animal cruelty laws have no teeth and judges are too lax when convictions are obtained

  14. Hasn’t this person already shown she cannot be trusted to not abuse and torture animals? This “human being” should not only be punished but NEVER allowed to own a dog, or any animal, again.
