Target: Environment Ministers of Australia
Goal: Create a recycling incentive program to save the bird population of Australia
Over 85% of marine birds in Australia are currently affected by plastic waste. The main source of the waste comes from the beverage industry and consumers throwing their debris into bird habitats. The birds, obviously seeking food, consume whatever they can even though it ends up killing most of them. If this continues, the bird populations of Australia will see dramatic decreases and some bird species may even be killed off.
The birds consume the waste, which has no nutritional value at all, and then end up starving to death. Their stomachs become filled with trash which gives them no desire to seek other food options. If the trash is removed from their habitats, then this will stop killing the birds. Recycling the drink debris is the only solution.
By making each bottle and can refundable for ten cents, Australia can significantly cut back on the waste in bird habitats. This will create an incentive for people to stop polluting and start recycling. Some parts of Australia already have this process, and they have seen wonderful improvements. Environment Ministers will be deciding whether to make this recycling incentive national in the coming weeks. Sign the petition below to support the recycling process and to end the deaths of Australia’s bird population.
Dear Environment Ministers of Australia,
Your country is seeing significantly high death rates among the bird population. This is largely due in part to the pollution in their habitats of items that could easily be recycled. By giving people incentives to recycle, you could see the bird population increase and also create a cleaner habitat for all animals.
Most parts of Australia have already started using a recycling incentive that gives people ten cents for each bottle they recycle. This has helped a lot of parts of the country to improve conditions and spare the bird population. It is obvious that the program works, so all parts of your country should follow.
The future of the bird population in Australia depends on this program. Unless you create some kind of recycling program, the bird population will continue to decrease. This will change ecosystems, and keep the environment polluted. I ask you to please do all you can in enforcing a recycling policy and saving the birds of Australia.
