Target: President Barack Obama
Goal: To make synthetic marijuana illegal
A teenage girl recently experimented with synthetic marijuana that she purchased from a gas station in Texas. Shortly after smoking it, Emily Bauer started to suffer from an extreme migraine. After suffering a series of strokes, she is now blind, paralyzed and left with severe brain damage. Synthetic marijuana is a dangerous drug, and we need to act to stop its production.
Synthetic marijuana is a mix of herbs and chemicals that triggers a high that is similar to natural marijuana. It is marketed as a legal alternative to weed. Many states have outlawed it, but it can still be found in places like Texas. Consumers aren’t going to be familiar with what exact chemicals are mixed with the herbs. Adding poisonous ingredients can cause addiction and dependency, which will only make the risks of smoking it that much greater.
The severe health risks of smoking synthetic marijuana are far too extreme to have it available for purchase. Creating a chemically altered form of something that is supposed to be natural is creating a drug that is just as dangerous as crystal meth or heroin. Sign the petition below to oppose the production of synthetic marijuana and fight to make it illegal.
Dear President Obama,
A young girl’s life is on the line and many more will be at risk if we don’t act to make synthetic marijuana illegal in every state. Emily Bauer purchased the drug legally at a gas station, and soon after smoking it had several strokes that have now left her brain damaged and blind. If it happened to her, it will happen to someone else again.
The synthetic marijuana is marketed as a legal substitution to natural marijuana. Several poisonous chemicals are added to it, which creates an increased chance of health affects and addiction. Adding poisons to a drug targeting marijuana enthusiasts is dangerous considering marijuana is typically all-natural. Consumers don’t know what they are getting into.
Emily tried the synthetic marijuana and is now permanently disabled and dependent on others to care for her. She went from being a normal teenage girl to being paralyzed. Her life is forever changed because of this drug. It is far too risky to have it on the shelves. Other people will be sure to try it, and they may have a similar experience. We need to remove this drug from store shelves and act to make It illegal.
