Target: Massachusetts State Senate and State House
Goal: To prevent damage to the earth and the health of humans caused by fracking
Massachusetts is the latest state in our country being targeted for potential fracking. Shale gas was recently discovered in the western part of the state, prompting a desire for further exploration. Fracking would pose a threat to all residents in the area and cause damage to the environment. A decrease in the quality of life for the locals and permanent damage to the earth is not worth the economic benefits.
Previous fracking in other states has proved to cause threats to the wellbeing of the locals. The drilling is not only a nuisance to local landowners, but it poses safety threats. Drinking water becomes contaminated and pollution blankets the area, which does nothing to help fight against global warming. Nature will begin to deteriorate, and once rural areas will become industrial hot zones. Ecosystems will change and agriculture will diminish.
The benefits of fracking do not outweigh the negative aspects. Injecting the earth with harmful chemicals will have severe consequences in the future. The high quality of life for humans should be the priority in this situation. Massachusetts needs to find an alternative method to their situation. Sign the petition below to oppose the fracking in Massachusetts and stand up for public health.
Dear Massachusetts State Senate and State House,
Fracking in Western Massachusetts will permanently change the environment in the area. It’s invasive to the earth and injects the soil with poisonous chemicals that will cause permanent damage. Practices like fracking are the reason we are heading further into global warming, but we can stop the fracking and preserve our planet.
Not only does fracking harm the environment, but residents in the area suffer as well. The undisclosed chemicals that are drilled into the earth can seep into drinking water, which can cause illness and prolonged health issues. This will become a public health issue and can quickly spin out of control. The safety of the residents of Massachusetts is at risk here.
The risks of fracking are not worth the potential reward. It is a public health hazard and the well being of humans and the earth are at stake for as long as fracking exists. Please find alternative, safer practices for extracting the natural gas.
