The first conventionally constructed LEED Platinum Rated home in California was recently completed. Some highlights of the house located in Los Angeles’ eccentric Venice neighborhood include:
- no air pollution emitted
- solar panels intended to fully power the home
- recycled building materials used such as reused insulation, concrete, counter tops and lumber
- rain water is captured in order to irrigate the landscaping (a point of recent interest to us)
It is clear from the asking price (reportedly $2,850,000) and the Hollywood buzz surrounding the project that this is not a precise example of how typical citizens can have green homes. However, as we’ve discussed in the past, green trends need to begin somewhere. As long as the appearance of exclusivity doesn’t turn-off average people then we feel this project has the potential to positively influence future design.
