Target: Lieutenant Governor of Quebec, Pierre Duchesene
Goal: Commend energy company EDF EN Canada, Inc. for its completion of two new wind projects in Quebec.
EDF EN Canada, Inc., a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, recently announced the commercial operation of its 150MW Massif du Sud Wind Project and the first 150MW phase of its Lac Alfred Wind Project, both built in Quebec. These are just two of seven wind projects the company has developed since 2008, and by 2015, it will have built over 1,000MW of wind power in the province. Commend this energy company for its continual work to provide clean electricity and protect our natural environment.
Both the Massif du Sud Wind Project and Lac Alfred Wind Project comprise 75 2MW wind turbines each, supplied by RE Power and built with regionally manufactured towers, blades and converters. These projects represent a combined investment of almost $700 million, and during construction created over 600 jobs, with 20-30 permanent positions. The company Enbridge Inc. co-owns both of these project through a 50 percent investment. Long-term maintenance for EDF EN Canada‘s new plants will be provide by its affiliate EDF Renewable Services Canada Inc., and the emissions-free power generated will be purchased under a 20 year agreement with Hydro-Quebec.
The Project Development Director for EDF EN Canada, Alex Couture, said, “Throughout the 20-year contract with Hydro-Quebec, the municipalities concerned by these projects will receive a combined annual contribution of over $600,000. The Corporation d’amenagement du parc regional du Massif du Sud will also receive an annual contribution of about $75,000.” COO of the company, Al Kurzenhauser, also commented, “The reception and support from the communities, municipalities and the parc regional du Massif du Sud have greatly contributed to the success of these valuable wind projects. We are proud today to announce the commissioning and to commence delivery of clean energy to the region. Bringing Massif du Sud and Lac Alfred Phase 1 to completion is a result of outstanding efforts by REpower, CER, Borea and our construction team who worked together to overcome challenges due to complex sites and in particular adverse weather conditions. The entire team performed with professional diligence, always putting safety first while maintaining respect of the environment.”
These new wind farms benefit Quebec financially, economically and environmentally. They have created new jobs, will bring the municipalities involved large annual contributions and will provide thousands of customers with sustainable, clean electricity. Sign this petition to ask Lieutenant Governor of Quebec Pierre Duchesene to commend EDF EN Canada for completing the Massif du Sud Wind and Lac Alfred Wind Projects.
Dear Lieutenant Governor Pierre,
The Quebec energy company EDF EN Canada has recently completed two new wind projects in the province that generate a total of 300MW of clean, emissions-free energy. Both the Massif du Sud Wind Project and Phase 1 of Lac Alfred Wind Project consist of 75 2MW turbines built from regionally manufactured parts provided by RE Power. During construction the new farms generated over 600 jobs, and will provide around 30 permanent positions. All the municipalities involved in these projects will receive combined annual contributions of over $600,000.
EDF EN Canada’s new projects provide economic, financial and environmental benefits to Quebec. The new jobs and annual funds will provide an important boost to the local economy. The 300MW of clean renewable power will avoid thousands of tons of unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. I urge you to commend EDF EN Canada for its completion of these projects, providing sustainable power to thousands of citizens and keeping our natural environment safe.
