Free Shark Held Captive in Tiny Aquarium

Target: Ocean Plaza mall in Ukraine’s capital, Kiev.

Goal: Urge Kiev’s new mega-mall to free Big John, the sand tiger shark being held in an inhumanly small aquarium.

Big John, an approximately six-foot-long sand tiger shark, is inhumanly being held in a small aquarium in the Ukrainian capital’s newest mall. The shark’s scratched nose is proof that the tank is too small; it cannot turn around in its tank comfortably without rubbing against either the window or coral. Urge the mega-mall  Ocean Plaza to remove Big John from the tiny, cruel aquarium and provide it with a larger home.

Protesters are outraged by the cruel living conditions for Big John, and are planning to call a boycott of the mall if the shark is not freed or given a larger aquarium. The mall has refuted the claims that the tank is too small, saying it provides the shark with plenty of room. They claim the scratches on Big John’s nose are only from its transportation to the new aquarium, and the tank is perfectly acceptable for the shark. The tank may be barely acceptable for the shark’s survival, but it is cruel and tortuous and no place for such a large creature to live. Thousands of people walk by the tank daily, ignoring the clear display of animal cruelty to continue their shopping. Sign this petition and let the Ocean Plaza mall know it is unacceptable to mistreat the marine animal this way. Urge the mall to free the shark from this cruel, tiny cage and provide a larger aquarium.

PETITION LETTER

Dear Ocean Plaza Mall,

I would like to express my disgust for the abusive living conditions you are providing for the sand tiger shark, Big John. The shark is inhumanly being held in a tiny aquarium. The shark’s scratched nose is proof that the tank is too small; it cannot turn around in the tank comfortably without rubbing against either the window or coral. I urge you to remove Big John from the cruel aquarium and provide a larger home.

Thousands of people walk by the clear display of animal cruelty daily. The tank might be barely acceptable for the shark’s survival, but it is a cruel and torturous place for such a large creature to be confined to. If the mall does not free Big John and move it to a bigger aquarium, protesters will call for a boycott of the mall. It is unacceptable to mistreat the marine animal in this way. Please free the shark and provide it with a larger, more humane home.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

We should do the same to them. Put them in a tiny cell to small to move in.

  2. Keeping a shark of this size in captivity in a small aquarium is “Unacceptable” . These animals belong in the ocean. In the home they were born in. Free Big John!
