Boycott Kellogg’s for Refusing to Label Genetically Modified Ingredients

Target: Kellogg’s, owner of Kashi

Goal: Boycott Kashi products and all Kellogg’s products until the company publicly and financially supports efforts to label genetically modified products.

Kashi, owned by Kellogg’s, claims to be “all natural.” However these claims are a fraud; Kashi is misleading consumers and concealing facts about its products. In reality Kashi products contain genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Kellogg’s recently donated to the campaign against Proposition 37, the California proposal for GMO labeling. Tell Kellogg’s you are boycotting all Kashi products until Kellogg’s commits to using non-genetically modified ingredients as well as publicly and financially supports GMO labeling efforts.

Kellogg’s donated $790,700 to the No on 37 campaign—which was the proposal demanding companies begin labeling products that contain genetically modified ingredients. Kellogg’s wants its use of GMOs to remain private and the company is willing to stop at nothing to do so. In fact, Kashi has even lied to hide its use of GMOs. The company claims GMO contamination and pollen drift from nearby crops is solely to blame, leading to some of its products including ingredients from genetically engineered crops. However, a recent study testing Kashi’s GoLean cereal found it to have 100% genetically modified soy. There are few studies determining the safety of genetically modified products, and the public has the right to know when they are consuming or purchasing products containing GMOs.

Kashi markets its products as “all natural” and organic, yet distributes food containing GMOs. Kashi’s lies have led to a class action lawsuit filed by consumers. The company is currently being investigated and consumers are hoping to be compensated for purchasing falsely labeled products. Sign this petition and tell Kellogg’s you are boycotting all products until the company begins correctly labeling its products and starts supporting GMO labeling efforts in 2013.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Kellogg’s,

I am boycotting Kashi products and all Kellogg’s products until the company publicly and financially supports efforts to label genetically modified products. Kashi claims to be “all natural,” but in reality Kashi is misleading consumers and concealing facts about its products. Studies have found the presence of GMOs in Kashi’s “all natural” products. Kellogg’s donated $790,700 to the No on Prop 37 campaign—which was the proposal that demands companies begin labeling products containing genetically modified ingredients. If Kellogg’s had nothing to hide and did not contain GMOs, the company would have not made such a generous donation to prevent GMO labeling. There are few studies determining the safety of genetically modified products, and the public has the right to know when they are consuming or purchasing products containing GMOs. The public deserves accurate information, not falsely labeled products.

I will be boycotting all Kellogg’s products until the company begins correctly labeling its products and starts supporting GMO labeling efforts in 2013.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]
