Target: Ohio Governor John Kasich
Goal: Dismiss unqualified member of Ohio State Medical Board
Conservative Ohio Governor John Kasich recently appointed an anti-abortion activist with absolutely no medical experience to the State Medical Board. Since this man (Michael Gonidakis), president of Ohio Right to Life, is an attorney by trade with zero medical training, it is obvious he was given the appointment by the Governor for pure political reasons.
Of course, politicians almost always appoint like-minded people to government positions, but this case is one of political wrongdoing since the appointee is not qualified in the slightest to hold any position in the medical field; let alone a spot on the State Medical Board.
These positions should be, and always have been, reserved for medical professionals since it requires making decisions that affect the medical field across the state. It is scary to think that any medical issues will be dictated by a man who doesn’t know enough to draw blood.
It is even scarier that the health and well-being of Ohio’s citizens is being put in the hands of a layman for political reasons. In this case, politics are directly interfering with the health of the public. Michael Gonidakis must be removed from the Ohio State Medical Board and a competent medical professional must take his place.
Dear Governor Kasich,
Your recent appointment of Mr. Gonidakis to the State Medical Board is no more than a politically-motivated miscarriage of power. It is quite clear that he was only given the appointment because, as a prominent pro-life advocate, he is of the same school of thought as you on the issue of abortion.
The problem is not that you appointed a like-minded individual to carry out your political agenda, but that you appointed an incompetent individual. Since he has no medical training or expertise, he has no business having any position in the medical field; let alone one with such esteem and influence.
This is not a matter of politics; as you have so casually suggested with this appointment. Since it involves the healthcare field, this is literally a matter of life and death. The State Medical Board has the potential to affect the quality of life of Ohio’s nearly 12 million residents for better or worse.
No matter your politics, you should recognize the necessity for a qualified medical professional to oversee the State Medical Board and therefore all medical care in the state. How can a man who doesn’t know anything about medicine be an acceptable candidate for a position which will dictate medical professionals?
If a person is going to be overseeing experts, they would ideally be a top of the line expert; or at least up to par. This man isn’t even close. For the sake of the residents of Ohio, you must reconsider your appointment of Mike Gonidakis to the State Medical Board and replace him with someone competent.
