Target: Highland School District Superintendent Cindy Orr
Goal: Eliminate confusion surrounding the incident in which a parent allegedly assaulted students
Numerous parents called the police after their children came home from school with stories of a man assaulting some students in their classroom; school officials had yet to alert the authorities. The lack of regard for students’ safety has many parents wondering what happened in the classroom and why no one at the school called the police.
Bryan Scott Edwards is being accused of putting one student in a choke hold and assaulting other students in the classroom. It is still unclear what he was doing in the classroom, but the school has a policy of allowing parents into the classroom, provided they do not cause a disruption. Though there are conflicting stories about what actually happened in the classroom, it is clear that Edwards caused a disruption.
Edwards and his wife, Shana, had moved to the area three years ago. Shana believes they may be an easy target for other parents because they are still outsiders. She does not believe that her husband would physically discipline a child. Their son, who was also in the classroom, had a different version of the story. He explained that Edwards had been roughhousing with the students before he disciplined one of the boys for saying something inappropriate. Their son made no mention of his father putting a choke hold on a student or any other act of physical violence.
The teacher at the time was a substitute and had no control over the situation. The district superintendent, Cindy Orr, said she went to investigate and found Edwards and his son leaving. She explained that Edwards seemed frustrated but was calm and she had no fears that he might harm his child. Orr explained that she had not yet called the police because she was still trying to determine exactly what happened in the class.
The confusion surrounding the events in the classroom has parents very upset and demanding an apology from school officials. They should have gotten the situation under control, alerted the proper authorities and explained to parents the events that occurred. Days later, parents are still unsure of exactly what happened. Sign the petition to demand school officials explain the events surrounding the alleged assault on their students.
Dear Ms. Orr,
The stories surrounding Bryan Scott Edwards’ visit to one of your classrooms are concerning. Parents were forced to call the police after your school officials hesitated. They had no idea what really happened and feared for the safety of their children. The school is still not providing details about what actually happened. Many students claim they saw Edwards put one student in a choke hold and kicked other students. Edwards’ son was also in the classroom and said his father was disciplining one of the other students for saying something inappropriate.
As you know, a child’s safety is not something to be taken lightly. The mere mention of violence against students warrants police involvement and an explanation to parents. They had to hear about the events from their students, causing even more confusion. Please explain this alleged assault incident to put the minds of both parents and the public at ease.
