Target: Tempe, Arizona Police Chief Tom Ryff
Goal: Fire officer who knowingly withheld evidence and tampered with criminal cases
Tony Trow, a police officer in Tempe, Arizona was recently found guilty of hiding massive amounts of evidence and neglecting his duties as an officer of the law. During an internal affairs investigation it came to light that Trow had purposely tampered with ten cases, storing evidence in his garage and neglecting to write a murder report for five years. In spite of this gross dereliction of duty and outrageous miscarriage of justice, Officer Trow has not been fired.
Trow openly admitted to withholding evidence during the course of the investigation. Trow took evidence that he knew would have a massive impact on cases and squirreled it away in his garage, allowing it to gather dust rather than be used to bring closure to crimes. Trow also failed to fully investigate the murder of a 19-year-old in 2007, much to the dismay of the young man’s family. It was found that Officer Trow was knowingly making a mess of all these cases, bringing mounds of evidence home with him to cover up his poor performance. Equally shocking is that Trow neglected to turn in a rape kit on a 17-year-old victim. It is mortifying to think that a police officer could have such disregard for the judicial process and criminal procedure.
As a society we trust our law enforcement officers. We assume that they will uphold the law and pursue justice; we trust them to do so when they take their vows as officers. If the cops cannot be counted on to protect the public and fully investigate criminal activity, then what good are they? We count on our law enforcement officers to uphold the rule of law, help maintain order, and bring crimes to justice. Tony Trow proved completely incompetent in this. Officers like Tony Trow tarnish this trust, violate Americans’ constitutional rights, and disgrace every other dutiful police officer.
Trow is incapable of doing his job, but more important than that, he is unworthy of doing his job. There is absolutely no way he can be trusted to maintain the law. He hid evidence, gambling with people’s futures because he wanted to hide his shoddy police work. He neglected to properly investigate crimes as serious as rape and murder. Tony Trow has made it abundantly clear that he is neither fit to receive trust or respect from the public he swore to protect, nor fit to uphold the law. Tony Trow is as dangerous to the public as any other criminal.
Sign this petition and demand that Tony Trow must be fired.
Dear Police Chief Ryff,
As a police officer you swore an oath to protect and serve the public. As the chief of police, you certainly understand the gravity of this oath better than most. Like so many other men and women across the nation and across the globe you have dedicated your life to upholding the law and pursuing justice. Unfortunately, one of your officers has neglected his vows and duties in a truly heinous way.
Tony Trow, a Tempe police officer, was found guilty of withholding evidence in ten cases. He did not file reports of rape and murder. Trow quite literally hid evidence in his garage. He thwarted justice to cover up his own ineptitude and laziness. He betrayed the trust of the public, wantonly ignoring everything his badge stands for. There is no way that someone who was willing to step so far away from justice should be allowed to remain a cop.
Despite these gross miscarriages of justice—his disregard of criminal procedure and his disgusting violation of people’s civil rights—Officer Trow remains employed. He is still an officer of the Tempe Police Department. Tony Trow is entirely unfit to be a police officer—he has proven this multiple times. Chief Ryff, if you are truly devoted to protecting the people of Tempe, you will fire Officer Trow. All a man like Officer Trow can do is shame every law enforcement officer who takes his or her oaths seriously.
