Bring Justice to Kansas Fraternity that Tortured and Killed a Turkey

Target: University of Kansas Chancellor Burnadette Gray-Little

Goal: Investigate the torture and death of a turkey, and press charges against those responsible.

A live turkey was recently brought to a dinner party thrown by the Beta Theta Pi fraternity of the University of Kansas where it was tortured and eventually killed. To make matters worse, the party was a catered event with turkey on the menu, meaning this particular turkey was there for entertainment and not for sustenance.

The problem started when the turkey arrived in a cage and, witnesses say, was kicked in by several of the fraternity brothers. When the cage eventually broke, the turkey escaped and tried to run for its life, but unfortunately found itself in the middle of a crowd. Dancers then began chasing, throwing, and choking it by the neck. Members of a blues band hired to play for the party tried to intervene, saying that when the turkey’s wings and legs were snapped it began screaming for its life, but they were told it was none of their business. The horrific event finally stopped when one of the fraternity members killed the turkey to end its suffering.

Sadly, this is likely not the first time such a horrific scene has taken place on the campus. The celebration has come to be known as “the turkey pull,” suggesting that this is an annual event and the attention it has garnered is merely the first time witnesses have spoken up.

Both PETA and the Lawrence County Police of Kansas City have launched an investigation. If the abuse report proves to be accurate, criminal charges will be pressed against those responsible and the fraternity will receive disciplinary action. An act of such terrible violence on behalf of so many cannot go unaccounted for. Not only was the life of an innocent animal taken, buut this is a clear-cut case of mob mentality. Please take a moment to sign the petition below to help ensure that an event like this never happens again.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Chancellor Gray-Little,

Recently, a horrific act of violence occurred on your campus during a fraternity party. A helpless turkey was brought to the event where it was chased, tortured, and eventually killed. To make matters worse, it was brought there for specifically that purpose. It is a very sad day not only when a group so large finds such extreme cruelty entertaining, but also when a school has allowed these parties to reach these extremes.

The job of an institution of higher learning is more than to educate, it is to make its students better people. Please set an example and not only press charges against those responsible, but also establish parameters to make sure an instance like this isn’t capable of happening again.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. These murderer/torturers must be prosecuted and expelled from college. How can this behavior be tolerated?

  2. future serial killers??

  3. Fraternities are primitive and archaic…just like all “boys clubs.” They nurture racism, sexism, and now animal torture. They’re a meeting place for conformists and anytime you get a bunch of young, not too bright conformists in a group…you’re asking for trouble. College guys need to learn how to make friends without having to pay thousands of dollars to join a fraternity.

  4. How could they break its wing and leg and think it was funny. I would like to break their legs and arms and see how hard they laugh then.

  5. Erica Jooste says:

Disgrace to humanity. I’m sure the prehistoric cavemen treated their potential meals with more respect. Participating students should be sentenced with community service preferably at an animal shelter, to clean up after the animals. Then maybe they’ll learn to clean up and grow up. Very sad future for Kansas, if these students don’t clean up their act.

  6. I do wonder what would have happened if there had been a woman or child there… quite possibly the same thing. These cowardly bullies need consequences for their actions NOW.

  7. How could people be so cruel to innocent animals??! To think that this is a recurring tradition makes me sick to the stomach and so sad. How would they like to have their arms and legs broken ……. So very cruel!

“Never, never be afraid to do what’s right, especially if the well being of a person or animal is at stake. Society’s punishments are small compared to the wounds we inflict on our soul when we look the other way”

  8. I am ashamed to be human! There are no words to say what I truly feel for the torture of innocent animals that this and worse is being done on a daily basis. Globally, we need to rethink who we are.
There needs to be justice for this kind of behavior.
God Bless the innocent, defenseless, and terrified animals left in the circumstances that give no thought for their value in life.
