Target: Patricia Llodra, William Rodgers, and James Gaston, selectmen of Newtown, Connecticut
Goal: Offer condolences and support to town rocked by recent elementary school shooting.
At 9:30 am on a Friday morning, the young students at Sandy Hook Elementary School were just settling into their daily routines when a gunman burst into the school, killing administrators, teachers, and twenty children between the ages of five and ten. The tragedy has left the small town of Newtown, Connecticut, shocked, mourning, and in need of support. Sign below and tell the grieving residents of Newtown that they are in your thoughts and that the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy will not be forgotten.
In the aftermath of the massacre, the second-deadliest school shooting in American history, families and friends of the victims struggled to understand what could provoke someone to callously murder so many. The 20-year-old shooter, the son of a teacher at the school, killed at least twenty-seven people in a spree of violence that spanned several locations and ended at the school, where he killed himself. After the shooting ended, traumatized children were led from the school as they held hands and closed their eyes to the carnage around them. Frantic parents gathered at the fire station, where they were reunited with their children. For too many parents, however, the waiting ended in greater tragedy as they received news of their children’s deaths.
In the days and weeks following this tragedy, politicians will undoubtedly debate gun control and mental health regulations. But we must first and foremost remember the victims of this horrific massacre and the families and friends they leave behind. We must stand with those affected and offer our support. Please sign to offer your deepest condolences to the residents of Newtown, Connecticut.
Dear Selectman Llodra, Selectman Rodgers, and Selectman Gaston,
Please allow me to extend my deepest condolences to you and to all the citizens of Newtown affected by the recent tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
Whenever a tragedy of this magnitude strikes, it is difficult to know how to proceed or react. When the victims are innocent children, it becomes even harder to understand how something so horrific could happen. I am deeply saddened to hear of the events in Newtown, and my heart is with all those affected by this terrible ordeal.
Although time marches on, we will never forget Sandy Hook–the innocent victims, the families they left behind, and the brave men and women who risked their lives to protect others. Please know that you have the sympathy and support of many people beyond Newtown, and we that we keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
