Target: Chief Circuit Judge Rodney D. Burress
Goal: Assign the maximum sentence to man who tortured and killed cats he adopted from Craigslist.
On December 31st, 2010, 24-year-old Alex Phelps was arrested and eventually charged with seven counts of torturing cats. Mr.Phelps confessed to stabbing to death four cats that he had acquired from the popular website Craigslist.org. The remains of two cats were found behind Phelps’ Kentucky home. An additional three mutilated bodies were found in surrounding counties, and are also believed to be the work of Phelps.
Despite the fact that Phelps admitted to using a sharp knife to stab and kill cats, he plead not guilty to his charges. Phelps’s trial has been scheduled for September 18th. His bond was set at $50,000 and Phelps has been ordered not to have any contact with animals. If convicted, Phelps faces up to a 20-year prison sentence. Torturing cats resulting in serious physical injury or death is considered to be a Class D felony in Kentucky.
Phelps reportedly told police that he killed the cats for the purpose of ‘medical research’. Area residents became increasingly concerned as reports that Phelps acquired the cats he murdered on Craigslist began to circulate. Owners who re-homed their cats with Phelps have reported the young man as being soft-spoken, and that he ‘knew all the right things to say’ in order to make himself sound like he would provide a caring home for the animals he took in.
Please write to Chief Circuit Judge Rodney D. Burress, the judge who will be presiding over Phelps’ case, and demand that he assign the maximum sentence to Phelps for his senseless acts of murder. Giving up a beloved pet is a hard enough thing to do without having to worry about people like Phelps. He became an expert on tricking pet owners into believing that their animals were receiving happy new homes. The way Phelps mutilated and killed the cats he acquired was shocking and violent. He is a danger to society, and his crimes should not go unpunished.
Dear Chief Circuit Judge Rodney D. Burress,
Please assign the maximum jail sentence possible to Craigslist cat killer Alex Phelps. His acts of violence against area cats were both shocking and sickening. Phelps betrayed the trust of animal lovers who truly believed that their former pets were going to receive a loving new home. Giving up a beloved pet is a hard enough thing to do without having to worry about people like Phelps.
Phelps is a danger to society. If he was able to preform such senseless acts of violence against innocent animals, who’s to say he wouldn’t move on to people next? Such violent crimes against living beings should not go unpunished.
