Target: Urban Decay Cosmetics
Goal: Don’t expand cosmetic sales to China, a country that requires animal testing for all cosmetic products sold within the country.
Since it’s inception in 1996, Urban Decay Cosmetics has prided itself on being a cruelty-free company. For many years, Urban Decay’s unique line of vegan and cruelty-free cosmetic products have been a staple for people who believe that animals should not have to suffer for the sake of human beauty. However, the company recently decided to sell their products in China, a decision that caused Leaping Bunny to take away Urban Decay’s cruelty- free certification. The Chinese government requires that animal testing be conducted on cosmetic products sold within the country. If Urban Decay continues with it’s plan to expand into China, it’s products will be tested on animals.
Prior to deciding to expand to China, Urban Decay was known for their slogan ‘We don’t do animal testing. How could anyone?’ Now that the company plans to allow their products to be tested on animals in China, formally loyal customers are asking Urban Decay “how could you?”
A large percentage of Urban Decay’s formerly loyal fan base is made up of consumers who respect the lives of animals and have pledged to use only cruelty-free products. Customers feel betrayed by Urban Decay’s hypocritical decision that will ultimately lead to their products being tested on animals. Most of the tests preformed on cosmetics, a luxury item for humans, are painful and deadly to the animals they are preformed on. Tell Urban Decay that you do not support their decision to drop their formerly cruelty-free image to allow their products to be sold in China. Animals should not have to suffer for the sake of unnecessary beauty products.
Dear Urban Decay Cosmetics,
Your company was founded on the virtue of kindness to all living things. Your previous anti-cruelty practices where highly commendable, and earned you a loyal consumer fan base made up of thousands of caring individuals who believe that animals should never have to suffer for the sake of human beauty products.
Your recent decision to expand your company into China, thus allowing animal testing to be conducted on your products, will not only make your company appear hypocritical, but will cause a large percentage of your once loyal customers to look elsewhere for their cosmetic needs. Please consider the lives of the animals who will be forced to suffer through painful testing in order to earn your proceeds in China. Urban Decay, from the words of your own slogan, how could you?
Please reconsider your decision to expand your company to China. If not for the lives of the animals who will suffer because of your products, then reconsider for your customers who have long appreciated and respected your company’s anti-cruelty stance.
