Support Protected Habitat for Critically Endangered Woodland Caribou

Target: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services

Goal: Designate protected habitat for critically endangered woodland caribou.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has put a new proposal on the table that would designate critical protected habitat for the extremely rare woodland caribou. A small group of opponents is determined to derail the proposal, so we must speak up for the woodland caribou and support the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s attempts to increase protection for these endangered animals.

Thousands of woodland caribou once roamed the northern United States, but today only a very small number remain in the wild. In fact, they are considered one of the rarest animals in the country. Last year, environmental advocacy organization Defenders of Wildlife reported that only four woodland caribou were spotted–the most seen in the U.S. since 2000.

Thirty years ago, the woodland caribou was listed as an endangered species, but they were not assigned any protected territory. Now it is absolutely vital that they receive increased habitat protection in Idaho and Washington State so the population can recover and ultimately survive.

By signing the petition below, you will be voicing your support for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s proposal to create protected habitat for the woodland caribou and secure the future of these extremely endangered animals.

PETITION LETTER

Dear U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service,

I am writing in support of the proposal you recently submitted to designate critical protected habitat for the extremely rare woodland caribou. Thirty years ago, the woodland caribou was listed as an endangered species, but they were not assigned any protected territory. Now it is absolutely vital that they receive increased habitat protection in Idaho and Washington State so the population can recover and ultimately survive.

Though thousands of woodland caribou once roamed the northern United States, today only a very small number remain in the wild. In fact, they are considered one of the rarest animals in the country. Last year, environmental advocacy organization Defenders of Wildlife reported that only four woodland caribou were spotted–the most seen in the U.S. since 2000.

As such, I absolutely support your proposal to designate protected habitat areas for these rare and important animals. I urge you to push the proposal to become law and ensure the future of the extremely endangered woodland caribou.

Sincerely,
