Dingell goes down, but gets one more shot tomorrow
The House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee nominated Rep. Waxman over former chair Rep. Dingell to head the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee in a vote on Wednesday.
As we’ve noted previously, this vote comes at an interesting time for Dingell, who has been recognized by many as the leading protector of the Detroit automakers and opponent of efficiency and environmental regulations.
The total vote count was 25-22. However, since Dingell received more than 13 votes, procedurally he will be able to bring the contest to a full vote of the Democratic Caucus on Thursday, including newly elected Congresspeople.
