Schwarzenegger’s Global Climate Summit to help prepare for replacement to Kyoto Protocol

November 17, 2008

California Gov. Schwarzenegger’s Global Climate Summit is this Tuesday and Wednesday.  The summit, which is in Beverly Hills, is expected to have 700 participants ranging from governmental leaders, scientists, environmentalists, and industry representatives, from around the US and the globe.

Schwarzenegger has called the conference in order to help create a framework for UN negotiators to use when the meet Poznan, Poland two weeks, in hopes of crafting a replacement to the Kyoto Protocol.

Since America won’t have leadership that is focused on this existential problem until January 20, Schwarzenegger has picked up the mantle of leadership so desperately needed in our country.

However, the governor has more than just the country’s well-being at heart here– the conference comes on the heels of a report released by UC Berkeley that estimates that California alone could suffer $23 billion a year in property damage resulting from climate change.

Too bad a similar report wasn’t released regarding Texas 8 years ago, as we might be in a different position right now.
