Palin couldn’t name the countries in North America and didn’t realize that Africa is a continent?
Reports have come out that McCain’s aids are claiming Palin couldn’t name the countries in North America and didn’t realize that Africa is a continent. As unbelievable as this would seem, given her other past statements, we should realize anything is possible.
We’re not trying to pile on Palin, but given the idea that she may be poised to “resurrect” the Republican party, as an AP story wonders today, it remains important to understand her anti-intellectualism. Again, it’s not the fact that she doesn’t think humans are causing climate change (or that Africa is a continent) that is so upsetting, it is that she could be in a leadership position, where these failings would have a direct impact on our policy.
We really hope this will be the last post we feel the need to do on this subject for a lonnnnng time, if not ever.
Update: If one is using a definition of “North America” that extends beyond the contiguous landmass of the regions of North and Central America, to include Caribbean nations, Greenland, etc., then the fact that she couldn’t name all the countries isn’t of note. That, of course, wouldn’t help her with the Africa problem and assertion that she didn’t know the members of NAFTA. OK, now we’re really done.
