Urge Purina to Recall Dangerous Dog Treats

Target: Nestle Purina PetCare Company President and CEO, W. Patrick McGinnis
Goal: Urge the company to stop sales of dog treats that are linked with illness and death in hundreds of dogs.

Nestle Purina PetCaree Company is the largest pet food producer in the world. The pet food the company produces is sold internationally in supermarkets, pet supply stores, and online. There have been more than six-hundred cases of illnesses and deaths in dogs attributed to chicken jerky treats made in China. Nestle Purina products Waggin’ Train and Canyon Creek Ranch are responsible for the majority of production and sales of chicken jerky dog treats.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) knows about the illness and deaths caused by the dog treats and have released warnings. They even increased the number of their warnings in November 2011. The FDA is not able to force a product recall except in cases of infant food or drugs. The company should voluntarily issue a recall until the product is determined to be safe. Unfortunately, despite warnings from the FDA and Veterinary Associations in the United States and Canada, Nestle Purina is refusing to take accountability. The company insists it is the pet owner’s fault, despite the growing number of illnesses and deaths linked to their products.

Please, urge Purina to take accountability and stop selling their Waggin’ Train and Canyon Creek Ranch chicken jerky treats.

Dear W. Patrick McGinnis,

Your company is the largest producer of pet food in the world and your products are widely available. Which makes you the biggest contributor of chicken jerky dog treats. Sadly, there have been more than six-hundred cases of illnesses and deaths in dogs attributed to chicken jerky treats made in China and Nestle Purina products Waggin’ Train and Canyon Creek Ranch are responsible for the majority of production and sales of chicken jerky dog treats.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and leading veterinary associations in the United States and Canada have issued warnings on chicken jerky treats made in China. The FDA cannot force a product recall in this situation. It is the responsibility of the company to voluntarily issue a recall until the product is determined to be safe. It is time for Nestle Purina PetCare to take accountability and stop the sales of Waggin’ Train and Canyon Creek Ranch chicken jerky dog treats.

Please, stop selling the chicken jerky treats that have been linked to illness an death in hundreds of dogs.

Sincerely,

I don’t have a dog but I do have two cats and I give them Purina cat treats. I hope I am not endangering their life.

  2. Anything from mainland China is suspect; Communism is still our enemy. We should isolate those b@#^$*ds from the rest of the world and force the collapse of the Communist regime, then work deals with the current Taipei government so when they take over they will end the selling of poisons to the West, invasions of neighbouring nations, and sweatshop factory conditions.

    • It is US companies that have set up production in China for higher profits; US companies that have lowered quality control standards for more profit; US companies that have lobbied for and received fewer inspectors at our borders. Profit is fine, but not at the expense of killing pets and exposing us to toxic chemicals.

Do Not buy- use – of give Purina ,Del Monte or Biljack companies your business. they are not in this business for the love of animals but for the LOVE of MONEY! If it were not so they would not market any food from imports that have been known to use garbage and unclean unhealthy ways for their imported products. china and asian countries do not value the soul and any animal.there are a few who do but they are grossly out numbered.boycott Purina and all companies that do make their dog food here in USA and NO Imported products added from China or else where. we do not need other countries garbage to make dog food in America.

  4. Pets need good nutrition as much as we do. Junk food and bad food shorten their lives and makes them sick, causing all kinds of disorders and illnesses.

Omg one of my dogs has been sick for sometime brought her to the vet 3times and can’t find anything wrong with she is due again 4/30 and now I need to have her checked for this she has suffered from UTI which my vet said is unusual since she has been spayed ,I pray that she is fine my four dogs I bought these treats all the time for and my male suffers from rare form of stones so ironically he cannot eat any food high in protein which they used to eat all the time.I’m sick over this and worried because my female has been acting so strange lately panting and crying for no reason (which was reason for vet visit)wakes up at all hours and won’t go to sleep just today, panting heavy. gave her the meds the vet gave for her pain, she figured arthritis .but now the UTI bothers me I hope it’s not a kidney issue,as I seen on news today.I just hope she is not hurt by dog treats.that’s sickening to think our government who butts into all these days can’t stop this from happening sickkkk to my stomach .so sorry to all those that lost their beloved pets to this.my heart truly goes out to you I have lost 2 of my own in the past and it was one of the hardest things I have gone through, but to think…..

I understand the China issues for profit but if our country wasn’t one of the high taxing countries our big business wouldn’t be going over seas in the first place.and we as humans don’t eat as well as some think our government standards are actually very poor so if they don’t care for human beings they certainly are not going to give 2 about our pets that’s why we need to take care of ourselves and stop thinking they look out for us cause they don’t ,and boycott is really only way to demand better for ourselves and our beloved pets.

  9. my dog got sick after i gave him chicken jerky he is a schnauzer the veterinarian ask me if he got into poison i have no poison out at my house and when he goes out i walk him with a harness on him he was in the hospital for 3 days almost died but thank god he made it i cant say that it was that for sure but he has never been sick like that again because i never gave him chicken jerky again if you dont think about the love people have for the pets they are like family or kids the bond is very real it is sad to think about the money in your pockets and not caring about are family’s

  10. Purina have never taken accountability, and if you query them about anything negative (even polite) on their Facebook account it’s almost always removed without comment.

But the facts are there. The ingredients are really really dire in all Purina foods for dogs, cats, horses… this says it all -> http://www.petfoodratings.org/dry-dog-food/purina-beneful/
