Boycott PetSmart To Stop The Mistreatment of Small Animals
Animal Welfare, Petitions — By Melissa Lynn on February 2, 2012 2:55 pmTarget: Robert F. Moran, PetSmart Chairman
Goal: PetSmart will agree to cease selling small animals, an industry that is cruel and inhumane.
By selling live animals PetSmart is sustaining a huge breeding industry that is as equally cruel as puppy mills. Disease and suffering occur from improper care, glue traps and illnesses even after the animals are purchased by PetSmart. The animals are also frequently bought on impulse by families without knowledge of proper care, causing the neglect to continue for their whole lives.
The vast majority of PetSmart’s profits come from their pet supplies, leaving the small percentage made from the sale of live animals unnecessary for the company’s success. By continuing to sell small animals, the company is obviously uncaring of the animals’ welfare.
Furthermore, PetSmart uses glue traps to catch any animals that may escape within their stores. Glue traps are inhumane, sticking so strongly to these creatures that parts of their fur and skin can rip off their bodies. PetSmart argues that the glue traps are necessary in order to keep the stores safe for workers and customers, however, if they do not sell small live animals then these horrific acts will not be needed.
Although these small, adorable animals seem content when on display at PetSmart there are disgusting abuses going on where customers cannot see. The violence against these animals is unacceptable, and until the company stops selling small live animals we should boycott purchasing from their stores completely.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear PetSmart Chairman, Robert F. Moran
The mistreatment of animals within the stores is a direct result of your company’s continual involvement with buying small animals from massive breeding factories. The adoption events and fostering of cats show that PetSmart is interesting in taking proper care of some animals but small animals should not be exempt from this care.
It is urgent that small animals are no longer tortured in order to be sold at PetSmart, and until then I shall not buy any items from your stores. Their small size does not mean that they suffer any less pain or deserve any less respect. If PetSmart truly cares about the wellbeing of all animals then small live animals should not be a part of your inventory.
Sincerely,
[Your Name Here]

Since most of these small animals end up dying or released somewhere in someone’s backyard [or worse] or given to a shelter because the owner can’t take the time or afford the upkeep, it doesn’t make sense to continuously sell these kinds of animals.
And, on a more logical thought, no animal in the wild lives in a miniscule cage, captive to movement and a slave to a diet not at all indigenous to its species.
A better thought might be to cage some humans for a period of 3 months or so, so that from a personal experience of the same, a human would perhaps be able to have a tad of empathy…[unlikely in this society of persons though...]
Why do so many people get into the wrong business?
PLEASE save these poor animals. pleqase.
Don’t all people have feelings for other living things??? How could you not?
