Stop Plans to Build Environmentally Destructive Oil & Gas Pipelines

Target: Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper

Goal: Stop plans to construct the environmentally destructive Northern Gateway Pipelines.

Enbridge oil company has proposed building twin pipelines that would extend from Bruderheim, Alberta to Kitimat, British Columbia. The pipeline would cross many traditional lands, displacing several aboriginal communities. Neighboring cities and towns would face health risks and disruptions to their lives. The pipelines would also have a horrific impact on the environment.

The westbound pipeline would export crude oil and the eastbound pipeline would import natural gas. The pipelines would ruin wildlife habitats, including wild salmon that indigenous populations have relied on for years. Oil pipelines also release huge quantities of greenhouse gases into the environment. Once greenhouse gases are in the atmosphere the negative impact on our environment is global.

Don’t allow Enbridge oil company to ruin lives and destroy the environment to make a profit. Demand that Prime Minister Stephen Harper end the plans to build the Northern Gateway Pipelines.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Prime Minister Stephen Harper,

The plans to build the Northern Gateway Pipelines must be stopped. The pipelines may bring in revenue to the state, but it is not worth the extreme and permanent social and environmental damage.

Building the pipelines would ruin the lives of numerous aboriginal communities as well as surrounding cities and towns. The resulting pollution would be a health risk to many Canadians and a devastating impact to the environment. Oil pipelines pollute the air, water, and land. The Northern Gateway Pipelines would destroy wildlife habitats and release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which are globally harmful.

I urge you to stop the plans for the construction of the Northern Gateway Pipelines. The cost is simply too high. Thank you for your time and consideration.
