Geothermal set to be tapped in East African Rift Valley
Articles — By forcechange on December 19, 2008 8:31 amA recently completed analysis of the geology of the East African Rift Valley has determined that there is tremendous potential to develop geothermal resources in that region. The study used earth surveys and studies to identify ideal geothermal locations in the area.
The Africa Rift Valley Geothermal Development Facility, backed by the UN and World Bank, now plans to underwrite drilling projects in Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, which are set to begin in 2009.
Kenya alone has set itself a goal of generating 1200MW from geothermal by 2015.
