Condemn School for Abusing Pig

Target: Mark Peterson, Superintendent for Greenwood County Schools

Goal: Condemn school for conducting barbaric pig rodeo at pep rally

A South Carolina school recently held a “pig rodeo” as part of a student pep rally. A juvenile pig was confined to a small pen while students and faculty chased the animal. According to witnesses, after being caught, the pig was repeatedly spiked into the gymnasium floor like a football. The school superintendent, Mark Peterson, was amongst those chasing and tormenting the pig. Many students were so upset by the incident that they left the rally in tears. This type of behavior would be unacceptable no matter where it happened, but the fact that this occurred at a school event makes it particularly abhorrent. We must tell this school that this type of animal abuse will not be tolerated.

The incident occurred at a pep rally for Ninety Six High and Edgewood Middle schools in Greenwood County, South Carolina. Apparently, school administrators thought it would be amusing to hold a greased pig rodeo. Any students that requested to leave the rodeo because they found it traumatizing were ridiculed by their peers and members of the faculty. After the event, numerous parents and students posted statements on Facebook denouncing the rodeo.

By the end of the ordeal, the pig could no longer walk. The day after the event a local animal rights activist named Joe Mann located the pig and demanded to take it to a veterinarian. Dr. Paula Watkins at Chinquapin Animal Hospital in Greenwood examined the pig and found many bruises and soft tissue injuries.

It is disheartening that local educators in Greenwood County, South Carolina would deliberately torture a pig as part of a student celebration. This sets an incredibly bad example for the students at this district. Some of the children may come away from the incident thinking that this type of behavior is acceptable. Other students were obviously traumatized by the incident. Please sign this petition and demand the resignation of Greenwood County School Superintendent Mark Peterson for his role in organizing and participating in this cruel event.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Mark Peterson:

I am writing to you to express my outrage at the pig rodeo that was recently held at a Ninety Six High pep rally. This was a disgraceful act of animal cruelty that has no place in our society, and especially not at an institution of education for our children. Many of your students were obviously traumatized by the cruel event, and others learned a bad lesson. It is not acceptable to torture an innocent animal to amuse a group of young people that may or may not know any better.

You and the others involved in organizing this event should be ashamed of yourselves. You have embarrassed your school and your community. In light of your cruel, insensitive, and idiotic behavior, I encourage you to resign your position as superintendent of Greenwood County school district.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

TOTALLY AGREE WITH YOUR COMMENT THEY WONDER WHY KIDS GROW UP ABUSING ANIMALS AND OTHER HUMAN BEINGS IT,S DISGRACEFUL AND SHOULD BE SACKED AND ANY OTHER PERTRATORS INVOLVED IN THIS ACT

  3. This is one reason my kids are home schooled. We are vegans. Yes veganism is a decent diet for kids. It’s much better than pink slime, connective tissue nuggets and GMO corn syrup.

An animal like this innocent little pig, doesn’t have to die, so that we can live.

whoopie for Joe Mann! Thank you for caring!

The fact that the students who cared, were ridiculed, speaks volumes about the mentality of the school.

Why is it that when people want to be entertained, an animal has to be brought in?

Probably because it costs less than hiring a talented person.

Why aren’t they (being a school) holding a contest, about which student has the best idea for showing school spirit, then showcasing the winner?

That would get some students to use their minds.

Haven’t we as humans, evolved from watching the demise of a being, as a sport? This was going on back in the Roman times.

Remember “The Golden Rule” – do unto others (animals included), as you’d have them do to you.

It’s “funny”, when humans set upon a pig, is it still funny, if dingos set upon a human? No? Why not?

These school staff, are supposed to be adults, examples of INTEGRITY, COMPASSION, ETHICS, etc.

Why did no one but Joe, stand up for this mistreated innocent?

That is a very sad thing.

    People are sheeple these days.

Thank again Joe, for being an example of what the school staff SHOULD be.

These are impressionable students, who are supposed to be being taught how to function in the real world.

Sadly, the real world and many other things, just don’t care. I went to a local gas station, and saw the female clerk, outside smoking, as I walked towards the door, she said. “ain’t in a nice day”. Seriously, how was she hired. Did she graduate? She must have not passed English class.

Sad, Sad world when “bad” is accepted and “good” admonished.

Ridiculed students, don’t lose heart, the staff and other students are ignorant. Please keep being compassionate, many, many people in history that did great things, were ridiculed by the sheeple of their time, such as Edison who was considered “addled” in public school, and was home schooled by his mother, Einstein, was considered “slow” because he talked late, and “daydreamed” alot, the Wright brothers, “if man were meant to fly, he’d been born with wings”. We have airplanes today, because of these two people from the past, and their unconventional idea and perseverance.

The fact that these non conformists challenged general perceptions, and ideas, is why we know the things we know today.

I think that the beating of this pig is horrific. These educators who were present during the beating should be fired and their names be published in the local newspaper. These people should be charged with animal abuse and pay for their crimes. This behavior was not an example to show to students

  5. Richard Sherman and family says:

This brutality should be condemned and punished in the strongest possible way. Fire every adult who participated or knew about it and didn’t try to stop it. Teach the students compassion and empathy for the suffering of animals. Shame, shame, shame for this brutality towards an innocent animal.
Blessings to all the children who were upset and left. We forgive you for being unable to stop this horror when the adults around you were such monsters.

  6. Georgia Antonyshyn says:

Sorry to say but the world has bad people and they are cruel and heartless and hateful. Animals seem to be low on the list of people caring about. It is sad to see this and it is getting worst and worst. Countries like the USA and China and others are only out to control and have power and are full of greed and hate . I do not see any change coming soon and it will be the end of us all if it does not change. Teachers and people of the faith seem to be sicker and sicker each day and it is a blessing that the children are upset and hate to see this ! I pray that the monsters of this world die like they live and rot in hell for all the bad they have done and are doing.

  7. Does anyone have an update on this awful event? Petition signed!!

  8. The national media should take up this story & embarrass the hell out of this school & it’s superintendent. Disgusting!

  9. Morally repugnant. These animals are Sentient beings and deserve respect as living creatures.
(More than I can say re. the teachers.!!!)

  10. caryl sawyer says:

Do some research on Petersen. He participated in a coverup of an outbreak of TB in the schools a year earlier.

  11. IS THIS THE SCHOOL INTO THE MADHOUSE ?

THEY NEED ONE – NO – MORE – INJECTIONS

    MONSTERHUNTERS NEEDED

IT IS TIME N O W TO DEMAND ALL BRUTALIZERS and KILLERS ONTO A LIST TO CONDEMN THEM TO EXTRACHARGE FOR NGO´S working for FUTUREGENERATIONS!

HOW CAN HUMANS ARE AS MONSTEROUS AS YOU, PERSONS RESPONSIBLE, LET A LIVING CREATURE IN THIS SITUATION – HOPE YOU EARN THE RESULT AS YOU DESERVES!

THESE KILLING- AND DESTROYING-HABITS ARE TO STOP – UNBEARABLY FOR CIVILIZED BRAINHAVING SOCIETIES AND NOT EXEMPLARY FOR CHILDREN.
